First Day of School

It's official, we have a preschooler! When did he get so big? Obviously, time has stood still for me. I'm still in a teenager's body . . . wait, maybe a junior high kid's body???

Joey did GREAT for his first day of school. I was nervous, because for the last few week's he's been telling us he doesn't want to go to school. Keith took half a day off work today so he could be with us. You could definitely tell it was our first time, because we stood outside for so long waiting for the teachers to come get the kids. The rest of the parents showed up with seconds to spare!

Once the teacher came to get the kids, Joey started crying. It was heartbreaking. He asked if I could stay and play with him. How do I tell my son, "no?" Well, actually - I tell my son,"no," by saying, "Not right now, I'll play with you soon, though. I'll be right back and you'll have fun." His teacher is VERY nice and held onto his little hands. As we were leaving, I heard him asking, "Where's Mommy going?" That's when I lost it! I cried. I think it's almost mandatory for a mom (or dad) to cry on their child's first day of school . . . regardless if it's their first official day of school or just the first day of the school year. I know my sister Cindy still cries and my nieces are in third grade.

Keith and I took advantage of the short time we had by going shopping. It felt so weird not having Joey with us and I really think Clarissa missed her big brother. After shopping, we headed to starbucks (Yes, that means we're cool!) and just enjoyed our time together. However, we were both watching the clock and hightailed it out of there once it was close to time for picking up our little man.

Once the kids came out of school, Joey saw us. He came running (towards Keith) and I ran to him. Yes, I know he was running to Keith, but I'm the one that missed him so much! My little man is now a BIG man! Anyway, he hugged and kissed me . . . and then ran back to his teacher! He gave her a hug! The teacher (Ms. Erin) said he had a great first day, in fact it was the "best first day ever." She said he didn't even want to leave.

As soon as he got in the car, Clarissa got so excited. I really do think she missed Joey. She started her babbling as if she were telling him something . . . maybe she missed him or telling him what all we did? Joey was just as excited. He said he had a lot of fun!

Now for the homework . . . yes, there's homework in preschool.

Awwwwwwwww.... I almost cried just reading that!!! I'm excited for Joey, but I know it's hard to let them go like that! I know when Peyton started Pre-school it was like "Wait..wasn't she just born?!?!" and, yeah..homework in Pre-school is kinda sad...I don't think we got homework until at least First grade...
